The bethesda official skyrim hd texture pack contains a lot of textures for armours and weapons and clothers, that are UNCOMPRESSED ORIGINALS. They will always have to be downloaded or left unused in your game folder, taking up 3GB of space, even if you dont want to use them after adding the DLC to your account, which can only be removed with the SLOW help of steam support.The 2k texture pack + flora overhaul + realistic smoke and embers and improved water textures and real ice mods have redone textures with a resolution of 2k and combined contain more sharper textures than the official HD pack, in a smaller download,with better performance ingame.Now what happens when you play with the official HD pack is that textures are read from uncompressed size in the .esp files or whatever the pack files are called, which hogs your reading speed on the hard drive because of their size, and also hogs your other hardware a lot more when using them since the data is bigger, which results in poor performanceTLDR: 2k textures look better and have better performance than official uncompressed textures.

SO DONT DOWNLOAD THE FREE DLC, because you cant get rid of it Honestly I don't know why people want an additional 3GB to download/3GB of wasted space whether they use the hd pack or not. It cannot be removed.

The possibility that my actions were irreversible didn't cross my mind - because that's not how things are supposed to work.Not to mention, snow on rocks looks terrible and my loading times have tripled. Resolution and Detail are too different things thats why this new pack doesnt show any improvements.

If they remake the details of the said resolutioned textures better than.Resolution is just sharpness and scaling no? When you load skyrim, you can go in to data files and delete the high res pack from there.

My Skyrim folder is back down to just under 6gb and The high res files are gone from skyrims folder.I got rid of it cause some characters were missing arms for some reason. That's why the file size is that high.The file format and the compression (DDS) is the same for all textures - vanilla, HD or with mods like 2K.The inofficial textures from the 2K mod do not have four times but twelve(!) times more pixels (2048x2048) than the vanilla textures.While this makes a big difference if you look very closely on a wall for example, it is not that obvious if you look at the scenery.

Just think about it, what resolution does your monitor have?If every texture that has been replaced in the official HD texture pack would have been replaced by the 2K mod, it would need four times as much memory as the official pack.Other than that the textures are just. different. Damn steam. the_bi99man Dont bother, go to skyrim nexus and get SKYRIM HD mod. nearly all textures are 2k and above. its much better than the official version!!! The pirate-detector is strong in this thread. But isn't it obvious. On a serious note, just get the game man.

Bethesda changed how the game reads textures by giving loose files priority over .bsa archives. i have 60 fps ingame but there is still stuttering D: (i literally have 60 fps ALL THE TIME but it still stutters despite my high fps!) would ur suggested mod change that? and if i install it, do i have to uncheck the official hd dlc in the NMM? o.OEither way I don't want to use external tools, I just want to know if my DLC is working or not. yes i can and the difference is huge! i also have ENB real lighting and tons of other mods to make the game look better and sound better and even smell better! not kidding! but i do also have the fraky stuttering although fraps says i have steady 60 fps (give or take 2 fps) Yeah well, I want to avoid those stability issues and crashes and stuff.I don't mind graphic that much in games, but I do want to make my screenshot nicer by using the free dlc.
